If a hammer is at say 3400+ at 2xxx Mhz and the P4 is running at 3000 Mhz the P4 will still sell easily....
Of course, if X86-64 catches on then AMD shifts the paradigm. Count on Intel scrambling to x86-64 if need be.


My point is that there is no evidence whatsoever that Hammer will equal or exceed P4. All we have is hype from AMD while Intel ships millions of P4s. Intel's frequency headroom is outstanding and it's silly to try and predict P4 performance a year from now much less compare it to a near vapor Hammer. What else is AMD going to do but make wild claims? Are they going to say to OEMs "wait a year for mediocre performance"? The only hope they have now is to hype the sh*t out of hammer because the alternative is oblivion.
