Itronics' GOLD'n GRO Fertilizer Sales Up 592 Percent in First Two Months of 2002, GOLD'n GRO Zinc for Agriculture Leads Sales Increase

RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 2002--Itronics Inc. (OTC BB: ITRO - news) today reported that GOLD'n GRO fertilizer sales by its subsidiary, Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., increased 592 percent in January and February 2002 compared to the same two months in the year 2001.

``The early start of this year's fertilizer season due to the mild weather in the West plus the popularity of our chelated zinc micronutrient product is increasing sales significantly compared to last year,'' said Dr. John Whitney, Itronics President. ``The increase in California sales that began in January is continuing and sales are expected to begin their normal seasonal expansion in March.''

``Itronics Metallurgical has begun an expansion that will improve manufacturing efficiency and capacity at its Reno processing plant. The expansion is expected to be completed in early April, in time to accommodate the large GOLD'n GRO sales increase that is anticipated in May and June,'' said Dr. Whitney.

In December 2001, the Company announced it had completed development and is introducing GOLD'n GRO Zinc in the chelated liquid zinc micronutrient market including large acreage crops such as corn, soybeans and cotton. ``Early indications are that GOLD'n GRO Zinc is being well accepted by the agricultural community,'' Dr. Whitney said.

Itronics Metallurgical sells its high performance GOLD'n GRO liquid fertilizer, which also can be used for lawns and houseplants, and its popular Silver Nevada Miner bars, a souvenir of the Silver State, through its shopping cart catalog at the Company's Web site: itronics.com.

Itronics, through its subsidiary, Itronics Metallurgical, Inc., is the only company in the world with the technology to extract more than 99 percent of the silver and virtually all the other toxic heavy metals from photowaste and to convert the resulting liquid into environmentally beneficial, chelated, multinutrient liquid fertilizer products sold under the trademark GOLD'n GRO. Itronics was one of five finalists for the 2001 Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Award, the most prestigious worldwide award in chemical engineering technology.

Itronics Inc. is one of Nevada's leading process technology development companies and a world leader in photochemical recycling. Headquartered in Reno, Nevada, it specializes in recycling technology development, photobyproduct recycling, silver refining, and technical services for the mining and recycling industries. Dr. John Whitney, Itronics President, was selected as Nevada's Inventor of the Year for 2000 and is a member of the Inventor's Hall of Fame at the University of Nevada, Reno.
