Hi Elmat,

On the contrary, I don't think ADSL is dead by any means. I do feel, however, that it is less than an optimal long term solution, which is what the ILECs appear prepared to pursue at this point, given their lagging profits and overall gloomy outlook toward the immediate (and possibly longer term) future. Reversing the trends that have been unfolding in their quarterlies could prove to be a painful affair for them, which could result in reducing their ability to drive fiber deeper into their serving territories.

Thus, having the effect of stagnating dsl where it was earlier thought that higher speeds would eventually be made available through FTTC and FTTH techniques, which may have to be played out by others, such as utilities and green fields in a limited number of niche areas. With time, of course ;)
