Siemens Scoops Deal to Supply UTL
Mar 01, 2002 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- SIEMENS, an international telecommunications supplies company based in Germany, has landed into its first multi-billion shilling contract with Uganda Telecoms Limited to supply a new switch, reports Geoffrey Kamali.

Initially, Uganda Telecoms contracted French-based communications company, Alcatel, for most of all its installations. But company officials said other companies are free to bid for similar contracts.

The new, digital switch worth 2.3m euros, is to be launched at Wadegeya in Kampala early this month.
