What would have been the proper way to handle a false threat from an intelligence source known to be extremely unreliable at the outset?

Win,

I thought of that but I'm struck by the failure to alert NYC authorities: not the mayor, not the police, not, apparently, anyone.

I would be interested to hear your take on the possibility that the Federal govt might have told us exactly what they knew: the information, that it came from unreliable sources, and, by the way, here were the actions they were taking.

The only argument I can imagine for not doing so is that it would compromise intelligence sources. If so, then it's a matter of calculating net positives.

John
