I will disagree with you there. Its hard and you can't let emotions get the best of you, but thats why I pay attention to the VIX, ARMS Index et. al.
"Moneytalk" radio talk show host Bob Brinker has done an admirable job timing the market in the 10 years that I've been a listener. Ditto for Don Hays (whom I subscribe to) and several other financial advisors. Brinker tries to focus on longer term market shifts. Hays focuses on the long term, yet takes a stab at intermediate prognostications.
