You are quite right, yet I wonder if more could have been done to prevent the revenge killings. The revenge attacks have killed ten times more than the people killed at Godhra, but we need to focus on Godhra. I can understand why the riots happened (which is not to say I support them), but I am still at a loss as to why Godhra happened. By all accounts it was premeditated and organized, by a few people, and the mob organized with the spreading of false rumors. The question is, what was their objective? Anybody who planned it had the brains to realize that it will touch of communal rioting all over India, but what benefit did they gain from it?
