The analysts actually have a function. In these days of Full disclosure rules, information is harder to come by. So if there is an alternative or secondary source of measurement i.e. channel contacts, and if there is a way to estimated earnings visibility and prognostication, they at least lend a guess. Analysts don't drive markets on purpose, they react to realities of the company they profile to the best of their ability. I believe most analysts who work for ML are honest. Remember there ia a degree of "art" to what they do. I think they are an essential help to ML over all.
