Actually Flap, in the conservative neighborhoods, stability in the family is much stronger than elsewhere. I'll give you dollars to donuts that if you overlayed a colored chart, similar to the Electoral College results from the election with one indicating divorce rates and one parent homes, it would fit like a glove. The fact of the matter is that sanctity of the family unit with a man and a women are principals more of the conservative mindset than that of the liberal, "anything is okay". This I think is self evident. I'll bet an overlay of SAT scores would net the same result.

But we do agree on your basic premise and that is that responsibility for one's childrens education is a fundamental obligation of the parent, NOT the teachers. The best teachers cannot teach a stone. Many of America's parents have abdocated this responsibility to our teachers and blame the teachers for their kids failing when, indeed, they need to look in a mirror.
