" that the Shrub wants to have us actively participate in. Fergama Valley, the Caspian, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Kurdish and Shi'a Iraq, Indonesia, Philipines, ,Yemen, Columbia. And that's just for starts"
And you are against these even though the actions are against an enemy who will repeat 9-11 if given the chance? Even when their own governments support our actions (Phillipines and Yemen at least)?
There are many in this country (you included it seems) who believe our system is responsible for everybody's woes, and that all evils in this world sprout from our capitilism. I won't whitewash everything that we have done or make any claims that we have always been innocent and pure. But I will support our efforts to protect our nation, whether there is oil involved or not. If it is not right for us to purchase oil from countries outside of our own, then the GOVERNEMNTS THAT RUN THOSE COUNTRIES should not sell it to us. If they don't, and then we go to war to get the oil, I may see things as you do.
Look for and embrace the values that our system and culture offers, and when you see an abuse within our system fight it aggressively. But you seem to be letting your Viet Nam experience color your view of who the U.S. is and what we stand for. Your mistrust has you believeing that we are doing all of these operations against terrorism to fatten the oil company's coffers and to suppress "freedom fighters". When you are thinking of a "freedom fighter" try to think of someone who is fighting FOR freedom instead of attacking ours. |
