The path of least resistance for high end servers is to wean themselves off RISC, and move to Itanium. Those IT depts that have high end solutions aren't going to even consider transitioning their line to a Hammer.

Why not x86 chips? They are 3 out of top 4, 4 out of top 6 chips in SpecInt: aceshardware.com

And in no time, x86 chips (P4, K7, Hammer) will leave all RISC chips behind. Itanium is way back in performance, way high in cost, completely unproven. How can something so uncertain be the path of least resistance?
