In your scenario with the senior generals moving against Saddam you would not have a democracy. To get a democracy you would have to root out the Bath party, and then get a large enough part of the country to agree to decide things with votes instead of bullets. If we really want to make Iraq in to a functioning democracy we might have to be there for a long time. Tim
