Ah, obviously no one told this to the George Philip Raintree Inc atlas-printing people back in 1979 [one still worries about those poor sods in the tip of Siberia there, GMT+13 indeed, if elected presidente for life there i would change it to Jamaica time or something] ... i had never realised the east-west extent of Alaska until looking just now, it spans over three time zones if you drew the lines straight and started them at one end of the state ..... in México some years ago i missed a ferry from La Paz BCS because of depending on the watch of a friend who hadn't changed it since he had come down from BCN which is in pacific time, so we flew to el DF instead, got there early, ended up being late for a meeting because we had set the stupid watch ahead only one hour [for Mazatlán-Guadalajara] instead of two ... other people were late too so no big deal but i still kid him about that, and still personally pack a watch even though i can't stand the things

Another unsustainable thing about dropping cash cost of gold production - the degree to which currency devaluations worldwide against the USD have made its cost in USD 'cheap' ... really what's been happening is not that 'gold is down' or 'the rand is down' or 'the loonie is down', but that there is a bubble in the USD
