The numbers Petz determined for Duron/T-Bird show that for 256K L2 AMD uses about 16.4M transistors vs the 13M for Intel's Willamette to Northwood transition.

I seem to recall that Hans mentioned that the size of the SRAM cell was way too big (not just the number of transistors), and he speculated that AMD may move to more efficient design with Palomino I seem to recall (which did not happen).
