Toshiba considers high-speed mobile phones alliance 09:46 Wednesday March 6, 2002, Telecom.paper
Toshiba considers an alliance with other mobile-phone makers to split the cost of developing handsets with faster connections to the Internet. The company is looking for partners to share development costs, but revealed no concrete details about possible partners. The company believes it's better to cooperate with a company that makes networks. Network technology is crucial in a mobile-phone partnership because handset makers must ensure their products work on the service operator's network. Toshiba does not make base stations for wideband code-division multiple access, the technology that NTT DoCoMo uses to run its high- speed wireless-Internet service in Japan.
