I watched from a distance. About a year or so ago I read in a Harper's magazine a letter that Chavez had sent to Carlos the Jackal. It was something to do with struggle and determination to do the right thing even in the face of extreme danger. After I read it I watched Venezuelan news items more closely to see signs of intervention and manipulation. There has been plenty, including negative articles in the American Press, and I believe even an agency hired to create negative news about Chavez. There's a lot of oil there.

BTW, I find a lot of interesting links and posts on Kitco. This requires some sifting through right wing nutbars, conspiracy freaks, and gold bug ravings.
eg; here's an interesting one posted by bw--- Caper is another good poster.

Enron is a scandal so enormous that it's hard to wrap your mind around it. Not just a single financial disaster, it's actually a jigsaw of interlocking scandals, each outrageous in its own right.>>
