Like I said before, I've been an active Republican most of my voting life, but I just couldn't stomach Trent Lott's rasoning in attacking Daschle. I have no respect for Daschle's hypocrisy, but on this one he defend the constitution when he questions Bush's actions.

I'm refering to Jim Lehrer on public tv. The questioning went something like this;

Lehrer...'Senator Lott, could you explain your reasoning for oppposing Daschle's criticim of the President'

Lott...'no one should criticize the president during a war'

Lehrer...'but isn't the job of congress to question the executive'

Lott... 'well, ah ah ah yes but we are in a war and criticism is dangerous'

Lehrer...'so how should Mr. Daschle express his opposition'

Lott....' we have committees and closed door sessions....'

Lehrer...'so what you are saying is there should be no public criticism of a president during this war on terrorism'

Lott...'no, this is not what I ah ahn mean...Mr. this is America and Mr. Daschle has a right of free speech but...ah'

Lehrer...'so he should just think about these things but not mentioned them except in closed committee hearings...'

Lott...'no,no he has the right but...'

Lehrer..'you said he shouldn't speak negative about the president..."

Who in the hell does Trent Lott think he is? Does he have the slightest idea what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights means/
