Well, Karen, I think that a modification from "folding" to reinvention or reorganization is more than just a "slight" change.
You stated that:
But somehow, that ignorance and bigotry ends up lumping all it all together to the point where problem solving--yes, there is a genuine problem, the sexual molestation of children, in there--and critical thinking are compromised.
I believe that would be an excellent characterization of where the Catholic Church is at now, as opposed to your previous sweeping indictments of "riddled with corruption," "wholesale child abuse," and the like.
If we accord the Church the minimal standards of due process, then we do not know how widespread the abuse problem is. Not yet. We do not know what proportion of the allegations against priests will turn out to be proven.
About all we can say is that appears to be a serious problem with priest pedophilia. And that, in the interest of protecting young people, the problem urgently needs to addressed with the benefit of critical thinking and problem-solving.
I myself think that a form of reorganization is necessary in the religious orders that comprise the Church. The issue of the priesthood becoming a homosexual haven needs much critical examination, beginning with whether it is true. The celibacy requirement for priests needs equal thought. (I think (?) it was you who made an earlier assertion that celibacy ensures repression, which I don't agree with, as many people choose a celibate life-style for a variety of reasons, and there is no basis for presuming that they are doomed of necessity to leading conflicted lives).
