Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel declared the auction of Band-D and -E PCS licenses deserted on Tuesday, after no bids were submitted for the March 12 auction, an Anatel spokesperson told BNamericas.

Is this the second or third time that they have tried to sell that spectrum <g>?

On a related note....some good news out of the CSFB conference. During the Portugal Telecom presentation, they indicated that the agreement for a JV in Brazil with Telefonica was mostly completed. They had agreed on the valuation last week....

PT owns Telesp and Global Telecom (both CDMA).....Telefonica owns a variety of properties (a couple are CDMA, one is TDMA, and another is still analog). The JV will have 11 million customers and revenues over $2.5 Billion.

Hopefully, this cements Telefonica's comittment to CDMA in Latin America.
