are bothered by the fact that we don't have a well defined end to the war.

IMO the reason some people feel that way has to do with the nature of this war. It isn't a war that is easily defined, and it is a war being fought on many different fronts.

Since we're fighting terrorists, some of the "targets" aren't clearly defined...and most likely some of the victories we've achieved can't be publicized. I would think that quite a few "fronts" of this war involved operations that can't be made public.
