That's a fair response.

Now suppose that by pure coincidence, the rating scale would rate Willamette slightly below 2,000 and NW slightly above 2,000 on both of your benchmarks. Where do you think 1.67GHz Athlon XP-2000+ would score?

I believe such a solution will put the correct emphasis on system performance without ignoring the processor's role in the big picture. But is such a solution likely to be implemented? I doubt it.

Hence Quantispeed. You can be sure that AMD would love to switch to some industry standard, but the probability of a standard developing is zero. Microsoft would be one entity with enough clout to make it happen but there is not much in it for Microsoft.
