The reason I asked is that I think another problem in the studies is different use of terminology. Like the priests, I don't think we know how many men molest boys because they are sexually attracted to males (gay) and younger males are more attractive than older males, how many molest boys as well as girls because they are children (generic pedophiles), and how many molest boys because they are more available than sheep and more fun than an inflated doll.
Just like rape is supposed to be about power, not sex, I think pedophiles don't necessarily do what they do because they are sexually attracted to their victims. I don't know that it's technically correct to say that a man who occasionally engages in sexual activity with a boy is either gay or bisexual. He may be heterosexual, as I understand it. Some people get turned on by doing something naughty, unusual, or risky, for example. That risk could be choosing for a partner a child or a nun or someone from another race or species or doing it in the boss's car. It may not be about sexual attraction to the partner so much as the titillation from breaking the rules. Likewise, if some men have an itch to be fondled, maybe it doesn't really matter who is doing the fondling. Just close your eyes. If the fondler is the bell boy, does that make you gay? Likewise, some heterosexuals have some consensual, experimental homosexual contact at some point in their youth and then go on to live straight lives. Are they bisexual? I don't know. Now, NAMBLA men are definitely homosexual pedophiles. They are turned on by other men. I just don't know that all male pedophiles who molest boys are technically homosexual or bisexual. They may be more like rapists.
