I think Sun is hiring, too. At least they're placing want ads
You can't draw any conclusion from that. Lots of companies, especially around the Bay Area, continue to place want ads for high-level positions to intentionally mislead their own investors and their competitors. If you actually talk to the people in these departments about the positions, they'll say they have no idea what you're talking about. I've seen this kind of thing from Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe.
Apple actually had a recent ad on their web site for a hardware engineer who was well versed in Firewire (IEEE 1394), wireless, and video encoding. You would think from reading that that Apple was working on a wireless video project. You would probably be wrong. In fact they had a hiring freeze at the time.
Adobe and Microsoft always have ads that make it look like they are hiring and working on cutting edge projects, but there's often nothing There there. In fact, even when they are hiring, the real list of open positions often bears little resemblance to the list posted on their web sites.
Of course, sometimes they really are hiring, it's just that you can't tell by looking at the want ads.
