Dennis: In June of 1996, NextWave declared bankruptcy They got the date and the year wrong! and only 2 percent believe it is not significant; Nextwave spectrum is now insignificant!! As I have said before.. The only reason why the spectrum HAD great value was because it was within the generic PCS spectrum which allowed the use of off the shelf infrastructure, and User Terminals! The economics of scale offered by tens of vendors of User Terminals, allowed the price of "band specific" electronic components to be spread across many manufactures and UT models. Qualcomm will begin delivery of RadioOne Zero IF technology which will allow the economics of scale appreciated by "Generic PCS Band" manufactures to be extended to "non-Gereric PCS Band" frequencies. So the amount of spectrum that can be used for PCS type services, that can still enjoy the economics of scale of Generic PCS Band" infrastructure, and UT's will expand by tens of times. The FCC is considering allowing over 170Mhz in the "Big LEO/2Ghz" MSS spectrum to be allowed for Terestrial use! There is also 700 Mhz spectrum coming to Aution! RadioOne will make all of this spectrum more cost effective to build "one -off" sysems that can be compeditive with "generic PCS" service providers! So as the supply of spectrum that can use "off the shelf" infrastructure and UT's increases. Demand and prices for "Generic PCS Band" spectrum will decrease. And so will prices! PCSTEL
