Bald, I would guess that the majority of people do not have stock portfolios. 90% of the wealth is owned by 10% of the people. So I've heard. In my family of 12 immediate and in-laws there are two with portfolios. Three with IRA's. The rest might be true. (John Q. Public may not completely understand it, but he knows his neighbor just got layed-off, his monthly bills are going up, his credit card debt is rising in order to pay the bills, and his stock portfolio is still hemorrhaging from losses.)
