So it becomes legal for older people to trick and take advantage of yet younger people? What do we gain by this?

It is well understood that older people have more knowledge and experience than kids. That's why children are given legal protections from older people. That's why a minor can't sign a legally valid contract. Because they do not have the knowledge and experience to protect themselves.

They may think they do, but they don't. Teenagers in particular (and I suspect teenage boys even more than girls) think their parents just don't understand their world and the world and just don't get it.

But again, what is gained by this?
