Rich, I don't see any evidence of any significant erosions of freedom. Most of hysteria I've heard raised has been void of any substance. For example regarding your quote from below;
the key members of congress from both sides of the aisle need to be informed of what we are doing and the public as much as possible.

I agree with this statement but your concerns arise (I assume) from comments made by Dashle which don't hold water. He made public comments recently implying he was being left in the dark in regards to the Bush Administration, he made comments expressing doubt about the future success of the current campagain in Afgan. Today he is on the news backtracking these comments because it now known he has daily access to the President. In this respect he is doing a disservice to YOU because you as an American want to maintain or checks and balances.

As an aside, we trade off freedom, in our social contracts all the time. we allow various government agencies to tell us things like where you can and can't park your car. You can't go on the public beach after 12;00 am. If you violate these contracts we give them the power to take our money or jail us.
I recently allowed airline employees to dig thru my private breifcase, subjecting myself to perhaps a more invasive search in the event I had something, previously inocuos[sic], that fit the profile of a dangerous weapon.

Bottom line is, I am willing to give up some of my freedom in a social contract with my fellow Americans so that we can better insure the safety of all of us. I think it is a mature approach. Am I wrong?
