Yes, they do. Most of the big industrial companies in the S&P 500 (i.e. those that would have large pension plans) use assumptions ranging from 9.0% up to as high as 11.0%. I frankly think that this is (i) bullsh8t, as their plans are very not likely to achieve those returns and will thus lead to my predicted congressional hearings in 2003; and (ii) a great contrarian indicator that we are in a grinding bear market, as corporate pension managers are even dumber money than European equity investors (apologies to Heinz and whoever else might be from the Continent; all CFZ members are of course excepted from my comment above).
