we need a moderator who reads the posts While it is possible, I believe, to change the moderator, it would be better to have two moderators, anyway.
Technically, SI probably can't do that, but here's a workaround. Suppose 1. Mani, has his post name changed to "AMD moderator." SI has done this in the past. Suddenly you'll see all the new name replacing the old one in all the old posts. 2. We all chip in a buck each and buy Mani a new lifetime account. He can register it however he wants. 3. Mani would change the password to his old account and share it with whoever is going to be co-moderator; JC would be cool, if he agrees. Mani would have to delete any private PM's. 4. The two could share responsibility however they feel is appropriate, for example, Mani handling all voting/long term bans and JC handling all "automatic" short-term bans. 5. Whenever one of the two moderators is replaced, the password will be changed so the old one no longer has access.
This would have the further advantage that personal posts from Mani (and JC) would be distinguishable from "moderator" posts. As it is, Mani's inbox probably has 5000 messages in it, because whenever you click on "post message", it goes to his personal account. Now it will go to the "AMD Moderator" account.
EDIT - Who out there can write a PERL script that runs every night at midnight, checks if anyone exceeded 40 posts, posts a message to the thread and posts a PM to the moderator? Heck, if JC's involved, he'll probably do it himself and make it "ban" and "unban" automatically.
