G(enetically)M(odified) Earnings: Speaking of oil changes, much has been made recently about wonderful news on the auto front. While I don't usually talk about autos, preferring to focus more on technology, I wanted to share an interesting email from a reader who has an interest in several auto dealerships. He said, "Dig a little and you will find dealerships are receiving inventory they were not expecting and did not want until spring and summer. They [the dealers] pay floor-plan tax on each unit each month it sits on their lot -- all so GM can make their books look better for another quarter." Given his comments, you will not be surprised to learn that he (this isn't me talking) believes General Motors (GM:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) will be an excellent short later this spring.
