BOISE, Idaho--Micron Technology Inc. today announced it has completed the acquisition of assets for ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) from Music Semiconductors Inc. Last month, Micron submitted a winning $4.5 million bid for those assets from Music of Milpitas, Calif., in a bankruptcy case (see Feb. 14 story).

The TCAM intellectual property is used in ICs for routers and switches to perform high-speed searchers of addresses in networks. Micron plans to use the technology to expand into specialized products for high-speed network processing.

"As we continue to meet the emerging needs of our advanced networking customers, these TCAM assets will help facilitate more rapid expansion in our product line and development of the memory solutions our customers need going forward," said Jerry Johnson, strategic marketing manager for networking and communications at Micron. "CAMs are the preferred solution to perform the extremely fast searches necessary for high-speed networking.
