Taiwan's SiS rolls out first Pentium 4-complaint chip set with 400-MHz bus

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) rolled out what the company claims is the first Pentium 4-compliant chip set that supports a 400-MHz front-side bus.
Geared for PCs based on Intel Corp.'s Pentium 4 microprocessor line, the SiS645DX from SiS is similar to the company's existing Pentium 4-compliant chip set, dubbed the SiS645.
So far, the acceptance of the SiS645 has been strong in the marketplace. "Since its launch, the SiS645 has been approved and adopted by all motherboard makers," said Alex Wu, director of SiS' Integrated Product Division.
The new SiS645DX supports double-date-rate (DDR) SDRAM and a high-speed, 400-MHz front-side bus. The chip set can be overclocked to support a 533-MHz front-side bus.
The chip set also supports DDR333/DDR266/PC133 memory, AGP4X/2X, and graphics. It includes the SiS961 Southbridge device, which supports 5.1-Channel AC'97 v2.2 audio, Ethernet and Fast Ethernet, Home PNA2.0. It also has an ATA 133/100/66/33 IDE channel, and supports six PCI slots and six USB 1.1 ports.
