Eric and Mightlakers posts have shown me the light on how GSM1X will overlay 1X BTS infrastructure directly on GSM MAP core networks just like you insisted. Europe & China have their choice of dual mode GSM/GPRS & WCDMA or dual mode GSM/GPRS & GSM1X network architectures on top of the GSM MAP core networks. My assumption that Unicom could bridge their CDMA and GSM networks through GSM1X is completely off base.

Thanks for keeping me on the right track.
