In addition to the IS-833 overlay, they will surely want to consider a network to network interface (NNI) or bridge between the existing ANSI-41 based core CDMA network(s) and the existing GSM MAP core networks to enhance interoperability beyond some the interoperability afforded by dual-mode 1xRTT/GSM GPRS handsets, and to allow sharing of protocols and databases of some of the core network peripherals.

Isn't this what the SIM/RUIM is designed to do in the dual mode handsets?
