Are you willing to take the consequences that could come from such guesswork?

There is a great deal of thought being given to ways to both keep the world economy going and keep us from self-destructing via the eco-system.

I suggest that be a high priority discussion at the governmental level.

I suggest that the risks of not trying to figure this out at the governmental level instead of just at conferences of scientists and scholars is greater than the risks of taking the risk described by the NAS seriously and addressing it seriously.

Of course politicians don't like to be the bearers of bad news. Unfortunately, denial can can be fatal.

Of course the politicians have probably looked at the scientific Big Picture, and, having put personal interests aside, got the whole thing in proper risk/reward, cost/benefit perspective.

Whew.
