MGI Software Gains Momentum in PC
Video Market with miro OEM Deal; miro
Selects MGI VideoWave for Revolutionary
miroVIDEO DRX Entry-level Digital Video
Editing Solution

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 1997--MGI Software
Corporation (CANADIAN DEALING NETWORK:MGIS), the world's
leading provider of photo editing software for consumers, today announced
that miro Computer Products, Palo Alto, Calif., is including the company's
new MGI VideoWave with its revolutionary miroVIDEO DRX entry-level
PCI-based digital video editing solution for Windows 95.
For the first time, miroVIDEO DRX with MGI VideoWave provides video
hobbyists, a powerful digital video editing solution at an amazingly low price
of U.S. $299. miro Computer Products is a leading global manufacturer of
advanced multimedia products sold through nine subsidiaries in Europe, Asia
and North America.
"We are pleased to be working with miro, a recognized leader in the video
industry," said Anthony DeCristofaro, president and CEO, MGI Software
Corp. "We're intent on delivering video to the masses. This represents an
outstanding value for consumers looking for an entry-level solution that
combines miro's prominent hardware quality and performance with our
award-winning video publishing software."
miroVIDEO DRX is a complete digital video editing system that lets users
capture analog video from a VCR, laser disc or camcorder, save it to the
computer's hard drive, then rearrange and edit these video clips and add
transitions, special effects and titles. MGI VideoWave makes video
production easy by eliminating the difficult-to-use timeline approach used by
other products.
Its unique Storyline for video composition, powerful editing functionality,
real-time preview with MMX(TM) technology support, lets users easily
combine moving pictures, animation, graphics, photos, sound, music and
narration to "tell a story" in video. Users can work with and create AVI,
QuickTime and MPEG movies and output their final video sequence back
to video tape, external video monitor, television or as on-demand streaming
video for the Internet.
"MGI's award-winning software represents a breakthrough in video
production," said Michael Kuehn, president, miro Computer Products. "Its
combination with our new affordable miroVIDEO DRX hardware delivers
unprecedented ease-of-use and functionality for consumers."
According to the industry research firm Dataquest of San Jose, Calif., total
worldwide shipments of video cards that include a video capture capability is
expected to grow from an estimated 14,996,000 units this year to
36,388,000 units for the year 2000. The estimates include a range of
different products from low-end to high-end video capture cards, cards with
a TV tuner capability and adapters that combine 3D, video capture, and
graphics acceleration. MGI Software has released several OEM versions of
VideoWave to address the burgeoning video capture market.
First released in April 1996, MGI VideoWave has quickly captured industry
attention with PC Magazine's coveted Editors' Choice Award in a recent
video editing software round-up and a Byte Magazine's Best of Comdex
Finalist award in multimedia. The worldwide OEM license with miro
Computer Products represents the second deal in as many weeks for MGI
Software propelling VideoWave's popularity into the world's leading video
publishing software.
