Yeah, but I have to buy my own ticket.

Gee! I considered buying a first class ticket once, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I used to travel a lot for pleasure, occasionally for business. Eventually, as plane travel became more and more dehumanizing, I pretty much quit. There just wasn't any place I wanted to go badly enough to deal with the discomfort of traveling by plane.

But after I hadn't visited my father in way too long, I finally sucked it up and decided to fly again. I actually got to the point of making a first class reservation. But in the end, I just couldn't bring myself to pay six times more than the cost of a coach seat. Just couldn't do it. I tried buying two coach seats to give myself some breathing room but found that unsatisfying. The arms between the seats don't go up all the way so it's hard to stretch. The most I got out of it was the ability to cross my legs. And everyone in the neighborhood seemed to want to converse with me about what I was doing and why I was doing it.

I haven't been on a plane since. Just the thought of going through the current hassles makes me cranky. So I stay home, for now.

I don't know how one goes anywhere without a swiss army knife...
