That's what I've heard. That was a major deterrent. Plus being away from my wife for six months. (I'd already done that about 3 years earlier and neither of us was eager for a repeat.)

Trying to figure out the etiquette and rules of the road was fun
Interesting definition of "fun": "Let's see if I can figure this out before I get killed."
OTOH, I've driven in Mexico City which is also "fun". (In Japan I stuck to cabs. However, I've a suspicion that their cab drivers are all leftover kamikaze pilots.)

The markets were interesting, too, except that seeing kitties and puppies on sale for din-din was hard to take.
Good thing I didn't go. I'd be highly tempted to turn that into a capital offense. (I love dogs.)
