Hello all.

As usual, I find my knowledge of these technical matters behind the curve of understanding most of you have achieved. In my catch up research on DMSO and Pennsaid I've reached the following conclusions:

According to DMX's website, Pennsaid uses a "Patented transdermal drug delivery technology which uses dimethlysulfoxide (DMSO) to deliver active drug compounds into an injured area of the body."

From the DMSO website; dmso.org
I've learnt that DMSO is a non-patented product that can be bought by the bucket. I've also learnt that DMSO is a penetrating solvent which does not harm the skin, and which can be combined with other compounds. Also, from an article by Dr. Stanley Jacob, I've learned about the many benefits that are intrinsic to DMSO itself.
dmso.org

From this information a few questions have come to my little mind: Just what has Dimethaid done to make its use of DMSO into a patented product? How much DMSO is in a bottle of Pennsaid? Why wouldn't the inherent qualities of DMSO be transferred to Pennsaid? Wouldn't long term use of Pennsaid be beneficial to the condition beyond being a pain killer?

Comments, answers. TIA, pat
