Hi Carranza2, <<Tiny Trinidad>> Them are war words:0!
(a) Trinidad's natural enemy is Venezuela, positioned 7 miles away, and envious. Trinis get the processing and downstream investments from US and Britain, and processes Venezulan crude/gas. Folks judge Trini democracy, British common law, and the 7 miles gap with Venezuela as desirable features for their money;

(b) Therefore Trini boast the largest military force in the region, known as the US army. There is a old base, now used as pleasure boat harbour, repair/fuel bunker and club. In times of trouble, as in WWII or III, the Americans come to protect their oil supply;

(c) Trini oil is well know, split 60/40 with the oil companies (Trinis get 60% for just saying yes) for exploitation:

(d) The exciting thing is not old oil ... but, new gas. Generations worth of exploitation and downstream processing ... investments to start in 2004 ...

<<BP Trinidad and Tobago added another one trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas to its proved reserves with the Cashima No. 1 well.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 13,160 feet in 263 feet of water. Some 520 feet of gas-bearing sands in four formations were encountered by the well>>

(e) Trinidad compares OK w/ Brunei, exporting half the energy that Brunei does, but gaining in reserve and daily production, Trinis having a real government, no War on Terror issues, no defense spending issues, better distributed income, and having produced many Miss Worlds and Internationals, along with two Nobel Lit winners.

(f) While I have family in business, finance, law, and government in Trinidad, I do not know anyone in Brunei, and thus will not be able to fix a parking ticket should I be caught DWI down the road. Oops, I forgot about the British common law:0)

Chugs, Jay
