I wasn't aware that the committee had decided on the "closer to home" policy for this year.

My knee jerk reaction is that I don't think I like that policy. I think that, this year anyway, the better teams come from the east coast and the southeastern USA. That would tend to stack the deck against the higher seeds in the East and Southeast brackets. As you get west of the Mississippi, the level of competition drops discernibly. Once you get past Arizona, Kansas and Oklahoma... Gonzaga is a good team yes, but playing the likes of Maryland, Duke, NC State, Miami, Pitt, UConn, Alabama, Cincinnati and so on is a killer. That's one reason why I like the school's with the tougher regular season schedules in the tournaments. Like a good frying pan, they're well seasoned and can play up to the level of any competitor.
