"Crossing the line" into acceptable use of nuclear bombs is so dangerous. The potential for gene mutation in many life forms is huge on top of all the other potential for devastation. We could create all kinds of microbiological monsters in the forms of new diseases, etc.

We have already over produced the large megaton type of bomb to the point of being capable of destroying everything on earth 5 or 10 times over......it's absurd.

The smaller bombs will be easier to make and require less radioactive elements so other countries will be making them also. If we get into another arms race then we will be out-producing other countries in order to have the competitive edge..........which is just more absurd. At that point we will be able to destroy everything on earth with our choice of several different nuclear devices.

THen we have the scenario of the former Soviet Union to deal with which portrays a disintegrating country that can no longer protect it's nuclear arsenal. Who knows how many countries will have small nukes that will change hands over the years.

I guess it's the precedence that bothers me and the "crossing the line" into new manufacture and development of weapons that have the potential of total annihilation. Humans, as a race already decided that it was pointless to build further weapons of mass destruction. We are fighting to stop the proliferation of those weapons so we should lead by example. We already have plenty of nukes and plenty of other efficient war technology.

If hostile aliens land then we may need nuclear devices........but we'll need to clone Will Smith( Independence Day) so we can deliver them...........I think we already have enough nukes, but we may need to increase research into human cloning!!! We may need the genetic information if we must combat the side affects of radiation.
