The mission to stop snake-oil salesmen has failed. What they want to produce and sell is done so without the need for FDA approval or clinical trials. The biotech and drug companies that have a real economic interest in producing drugs that work and could be sued in the absence of the FDA are the ones who are hamstrung in the name of protecting the public. The same public that would get politicians to block any attempt by the FDA to regulate natural products the same way it regulates manufactured ones.
