CyberWorks' CSL May Buy Rival New World Mobility, Paper Says By Kenneth Wong
Hong Kong, March 11 (Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong CSL Ltd., the mobile phone arm of Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd., is in talks with smaller rival New World Mobility on a purchase that would create the city's biggest mobile phone operator, the Oriental Daily News reported, citing unidentified people.
CSL is currently examining the financial accounts of New World, it said. If the deal goes through, CSL would supercede Hutchison Telecom, owned by Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., as Hong Kong's biggest mobile phone operator with 1.7 million subscribers, the paper said. New World Mobility, owned by New Word Development Co., has about 1 million users now.
CSL Chief Executive Hubert Ng declined to comment, while New World Development couldn't be reached, Oriental Daily said.
