Scott, I am basically a short-termer. But if the position goes
against me, I will hold the stock(s) for long-term. In the mean
time, I will play the option market (i.e. write calls-puts) on
the positions that I own (OK. usually I write naked puts.)

On the whole, I would say that I do OK on option writing as I
have not been burned too bad (yet).

Then, when the market turns, my long positions would have been
cost-averaged down (by the premiums) I collected in options
writing so even if the price of the stock breaks even, I would
still make a small profit.
