Rite Aid Applauds PharmacyCareOneCard

Says Card Will Provide Convenient, Meaningful Prescription Drug Benefit To Uninsured Low-Income Seniors

CAMP HILL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2002--Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE, PCX: RAD) today applauded the launch of the PharmacyCareOneCard, which is designed to provide an easy, convenient way for uninsured low-income seniors to pay less for their prescription drugs.

The card is being developed by the newly created Pharmacy Care Alliance, a project of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores formed to help low-income seniors purchase prescriptions through cost-saving benefit programs offered by drug manufacturers.

Rite Aid said it will accept the card at all of its more than 3,500 stores nationwide. Under the program, qualifying seniors will be able to present their PharmacyCareOneCard at participating pharmacies and access a large network of benefit programs offered by drug manufacturers.

``Low-income seniors shouldn't have to choose between buying the prescription drugs they need and buying dinner,'' said Mary Sammons, Rite Aid president and chief operating officer. ``The PharmacyCareOneCard is a strong first step in providing a desperately needed drug benefit and providing it soon. PharmacyCareOneCard will make it easy and convenient for the customer, easy for the pharmacist to fill the prescription and easy for drug companies to get the information about their special benefits to seniors who qualify.

``We commend the drug companies that have already offered meaningful benefits to needy seniors. We hope this card will motivate others to do the same so that eligible seniors will not only be able to save money on one or two of their prescriptions, but on all of their prescriptions,'' Sammons said. ``As a member of the Pharmacy Alliance, we will continue to work to find ways to provide meaningful prescription benefits to the seniors who need them.''

Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of more than $14 billion and more than 3,500 stores in 28 states and the District of Columbia.
