Close, but no cigar... If anything, I'd vote for Ms Arlette Laguiller. Of course, as with most European far-leftists, her creed is rather anti-American --they just can't help it. Well, actually, anti-Americanism has become "bipartisan" in Europe... From the far-left to the far-right, it's quite fashionable to bash McDonald's, Hollywood, the US bully-boy policy, etc.

Besides, PM L. Jospin is no match for Prez Chirac --think of Jospin as the French Al Gore... savvy? I'd bet on sovereignist J.-P. Chevenement. True, he fares rather poorly in the polls (about 9% vs 23%+ for Chirac & Jospin) but the polls are meaningless anyway. Opinion polls are doctored by pro-establishment outfits and Chevenement is anti-establishment, he's a maverick and French love mavericks (Mitterand), that is, politicians who appeal as much to the Left as to the Right... contrarian fellows...
