Keller needs a good editor. Great subject, bad writing. The whole transformation issue, to an uninformed layman like me, is simply a reflection of the world's increasing complexity. We need to be prepared for a big nuclear exchange with China while at the same time be ready to fight an Afghanistan-like conflict in a smart and sophisticated manner. Complete security requires being able to respond to all threats, a hugely expensive proposition. The aircraft carrier issue is an interesting one. They are proving to be valuable in conflicts such as the one in Afghanistan. Will we not lose one or two of them if we use them in an Iraqi conflict? I can't imagine that even the most sophisticated Aegis vessel can protect a carrier from all threats. C2@weallturnintodinosaurseventually.com
