It's a great word, isn't it? Nawlins was very much like I'd thought it would be: humid and friendly, a little down-at-the heels and filled with curiosities. I was woken by a born-again Christian every morning, who's start shouting with a bullhorn at six AM. There was scented cat litter in the ashtrays of my hotel, a Popeye's conveniently next door, and an impossibly tall and comfortable bed in my room, where I'd retreat to when the conference began to give me a headache. We were within walking distance of the French Quarter and went to Mr. B's one night.It was wonderful, by far the best food I had there. I really appreciate the recommendation. The trees along Canal, all draped in Mardi Gras beads, made for an eery walk home each night, and gave me plenty of ideas for poems.
