Yes, DivX originally was a pay-per-view DVD format which failed miserably (power to the people!) That is why the compression scheme was named after it (read the article). The new version 5.0 is supposed to be fantastic as far as quality and speed and is supposed to be included in the new version of QuickTime (if they can sort out the royalty structure). Hopefully, AMD can steer clear of the Digital Rights Management debate that is ensuing... P.S. I detest the M.P.A.A., R.I.A.A etc.
